The Asian Dynamic Positioning Conference 2016

The Asian Dynamic Positioning Conference 2016 organised by Riviera was held on 21st September 2016 at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. Joey chaired the morning session which was split into two sessions comprising oil majors' / vessel owners' requirements and DP certification and competence assurance. Joey gave the welcome address and started Session 1 with his presentation on “An industry update and meeting oil majors’ and vessel owners’ expectations”. His presentation focused on IMO MSC Circular 645, IMCA 117 (Rev 2) and the recently issued OCIMF DP Assurance Framework. There where presentations from Tidewater, POSH and Greatship which focused on “How to maintain quality and competencies in a cost constrained world?”
The session which focused on competence assurance involved the Nautical Institute, DNVGL, IMOSTI and Satumarin. It became clear that competence remained an issue in Asia and Joey called for an industry recognized accreditation scheme for Subject Matter Experts and those preforming DP assurance activities, FMEAs and Annual DP Trials. The panelists and attendees agreed that this was needed and IMCA agreed that they would consider the options for implementation of such a scheme. Andy Goldsmith of IMCA chaired the afternoon session, which was split into two sessions as well; Session 3 – How technology can reduce the costs of DP and improve performance and Session 4 – DP incident reporting and safety management. Overallit was an interesting and lively conference that was well attended from all areas of the DP community.
