The 8th Dynamic Positioning Asia Conference, combined with MTS DP Committee Workshops was held last week between 27 – 29 June 2018 at M Hotel Singapore. Some of our team members attended all three days of the conference. The conference content was organised by the DP Asia Technical Committee (Joey Fisher, the committee chairman) and MTS DP Committee, in conjunction with MediaComz. Due to work commitments, Joey could not attend the conference. The first day started off with the welcome address by the MediaComz Group Editor and was followed by presentations revolving around ‘DP Technology’. Captain Mike Meade, our CEO together with Andy Goldsmith of IMCA presented on ‘IMCA Updates 2018 – Adding Value to DP Operations’. The afternoon session was an MTS DP Committee workshop session on ‘DP Professional Competencies’ chaired by Suman Muddusetti. The delegates were assigned to review and give feedback on the ‘MTS TECHOP_ODP_16_(P) – Competency Elements for DP Professionals – DP SMEs / DP FMEA Practitioners’ draft document. The second day had a focus on thrusters, thruster technology and failure modes. The morning session consisted of presentations on ‘Thrusters & DP Capability’. This session was chaired by David Marren of Swire Pacific Offshore. The afternoon session was a workshop session focusing on ‘Unwanted Thrust / Thruster Fail Safe Conditions’ which was chaired by Suman Muddusetti and Dr Steven Cargill representing the MTS DP Committee. DP events and incidents related to thrusters/thruster control systems were reviewed during the workshop session along with preventative actions. The third day was MTS workshop session. The morning session was on ‘DP Validation & Verification’ and the afternoon session was on ‘Reactivation of DP Vessels’. During the afternoon session. the delegates were assigned to review and give feedback on the ‘DP Asset Reactivation Guidance’ document. Overall, around 70 – 90 delegates attended this year’s DP Asia Conference and MTS Workshop. About one-third of them attended for the first time this.
